Proper storage methods for sodium hydroxide.

1. Sodium hydroxide has a slight corrosive effect on glassware. When in contact, they form sodium silicate, causing the plunger in glass instruments to stick. Therefore, glass stoppers should not be used to contain sodium hydroxide solutions, as this may prevent the container from being opened. 2. Prolonged storage of hot sodium hydroxide solutions in glass containers can also damage the containers. 3. Sodium hydroxide should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated storage area, away from sources of ignition and heat. The storage temperature should not exceed 35°C, and the relative humidity should not exceed 80%. The packaging must be sealed to prevent moisture absorption. It should be stored separately from flammable materials and acids, and mixed storage should be avoided. The storage area should be equipped with appropriate materials to contain any leaks. Solid sodium hydroxide should be packed in 0.5 mm thick steel drums and sealed tightly, with a net weight of no more than 100 kg per drum. Alternatively, it can be packed in plastic bags or double-layered kraft paper bags, then placed in open-top or half-open-top steel drums. Glass bottles with threaded necks, glass bottles with iron caps, plastic bottles, or metal drums (cans) should be placed in ordinary wooden crates. Glass bottles with threaded necks, plastic bottles, or tin-plated thin steel drums (cans) should be placed in full-bottom pallet boxes, fiberboard boxes, or plywood boxes. Tin-plated thin steel drums (cans), metal drums (cans), plastic bottles, or metal flexible tubes should be placed in corrugated cardboard boxes. The packaging containers must be intact and sealed, with clear markings indicating "corrosive materials."
