The Functions and Applications of Sodium Hydroxide

2023-12-27

1. The Functions of Sodium Hydroxide

1. Remove hydrogen sulfide.

Sodium hydroxide can convert hydrogen sulfide into sodium sulfate or potassium sulfate, thereby achieving deodorization. It can be used in wastewater treatment and also in the treatment of exhaust gases.

2. Adjust the acidity.

Sodium hydroxide is an alkaline substance that can neutralize acidic materials and adjust acidity levels. In chemical experiments, it can be used to standardize acid solutions and to regulate the pH of reaction mixtures.

II. Applications of Sodium Hydroxide

1. Textile printing and dyeing

The textile dyeing and finishing industry is a major consumer of sodium hydroxide. Sodium hydroxide is used to remove impurities from fabrics, adjust the pH of dyes, and enhance the softening treatment of fibers.

2. Food processing

Sodium hydroxide is also a commonly used substance in the food processing industry. In the production of foods such as instant noodles, candies, and chocolates, sodium hydroxide can be used as an alkaline regulator to adjust the pH level of the food.
